Create a complete series that includes a CD, cover and insert and a supporting marketing campaign. Choose a former jazz musician and develop a design language based on his or her style. Create all design assets and a brand logo.

Benny Goodman, King of Swing.

I like Benny Goodman’s music and his style. I chose a color palette of rich purple and black, with white for contrast. Using the B and the G from his name, I created a pattern that appears in most pieces. I also created an illustration of a clarinet, Mr. Goodman’s signature instrument.

Postcard Design.

The focal point of the postcard used to announce his concert is an illustration of Mr. Goodman, with a background pattern of the B and G. I chose an Art Deco font which is a prevalent design feature from the period of his fame.

Black is such a powerful color, and also carries the connotation of mystery and darkness. Back in his time, the jazz halls were dimly lit and crowded. I wanted to impart this feeling in the overall design.

This is the label that was used on the actual CD.

I used the logo as a pattern in the background and listed all of his songs.
